FAQ

My Boat is an online application which calculates a vessel’s requirements using the ‘deemed to satisfy solutions’ of the Marine Safety (Domestic Commercial Vessel) National Law Act 2012 and subsidiary legislation. My Boat is a program which determines which standard applies to a vessel and what equipment a vessel is required to carry.

The results provided by My Boat are not able to cover every requirement that a vessel must meet. However, they are a good starting point for owners, operators and designers before conducting in depth investigation of the legal requirements or engaging professional advice.

No. Outputs provided by My Boat are limited in scope and only provide a general overview of the requirements for a vessel. Currently, outputs can be generate relating to some bilge system, safety equipment, navigation equipment, communications equipment, additional fast craft, navigation light and propeller shafting requirements.
Different types of vessels have different features and measurements. My Boat adapts by activating and disabling fields that are not applicable for vessel type you have selected. The active fields in My Boat are required for the type of vessel you have defined. If you change your selection, active and inactive fields will update and possibly change to suit the new vessel type.
The outputs generated by My Boat are guides to applicable standards and do not constitute the provision of professional or legal advice.
